Eagle River Casino & Travel Plaza combines casino gaming, Timber’s Restaurant & Lounge, meeting space and road-trip facilities at the Highway 43 and Highway 32 North junction near Whitecourt. It is a practical place to consider for an evening meal and gaming visit, or as one stop on a longer drive through the region.
The main planning detail is timing: slots open before live tables, dining closes before the casino’s late sessions end, and the travel plaza follows its own schedule. Accommodation also needs care. The operator’s hotel information still describes a future opening; an RV reservation and a hotel room are different arrangements.

Property background and what the name covers
The operator says the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation created Eagle River to support tourism and employment, and dates its public opening to January 31, 2008. Its property description gives a 39,000-square-foot facility that includes the restaurant, lounge and conference space. That figure should not be mistaken for the size of the gaming floor alone.
The broader Casino & Travel Plaza name explains why a search can lead to several different services. Choose the relevant department when planning a visit: a gaming inquiry, catered function and overnight RV stay need different information. Check that a confirmation names the service you requested and the correct date, especially when coordinating several people arriving separately.
Opening hours: plan around the part you want to visit
The schedules in the quick facts separate gaming, dining and travel services. Arriving early in the afternoon gives you a different choice of activities from arriving for an evening at the tables. If live play is the reason for the journey, build your arrival around the table opening rather than the first time the property welcomes slot players.
| Service | Published schedule | Planning detail |
|---|---|---|
| Slots, Sun–Thu | Noon–midnight. | Tables open later. |
| Slots, Fri–Sat | Noon–2am the next morning. | Use the date of arrival when planning pickup. |
| Tables, Sun–Thu | 4pm–midnight. | Confirm the game and available seats. |
| Tables, Fri–Sat | 4pm–2am the next morning. | A service window does not reserve a table. |
| Sunday poker | Advertised start: 5pm. | Confirm format and registration; no continuous room schedule established. |
| Timber’s | Daily noon–11pm. | Ask about last orders and dated specials. |
| Travel plaza | Daily 7am–11pm. | RV reservations are a separate arrangement. |
For late visits, check the day on which the session begins. Friday’s gaming opening period ends at 2am on Saturday. This matters when arranging a lift, setting a calendar reminder or checking into accommodation elsewhere. Give your driver an actual date and pickup time rather than saying only “Friday night.”
Three useful ways to time a visit
- Afternoon stop: choose lunch and a short visit, allowing time to return to your driving route without waiting for live tables.
- Meal and tables: arrive for dinner and leave room in the evening for the particular game you want to find.
- Late session: eat beforehand or confirm food service before arriving, and settle transport before the end of the night.
Published opening hours do not promise that every table, seat or service is available throughout the whole period. On holidays, during private functions or when a specific event matters, a brief call is useful. Ask about the activity itself, not just whether the building is open. The official gaming page is the starting point for the casino schedule.
Slots, denominations and reading a machine
Eagle River advertises ticket-in, ticket-out slots, with denominations from one cent to one dollar. A denomination is the value of a credit; it does not tell you the full cost of pressing the spin button. Read the displayed total wager before you start, particularly after changing the number of credits or selecting a feature.
For example, a machine showing a one-cent denomination can still require many credits for the bet you have selected. Look at the cash amount, rather than deciding that a “penny” label means a one-cent round. If the controls are unfamiliar, ask a floor attendant to explain the available settings before committing money.
A sensible first check includes the paytable, wager controls, feature instructions and cash-out process. Find out whether the displayed jackpot has any qualifying bet requirement. A large meter alone does not explain which outcomes or wager settings qualify for it. The current machine instructions should settle that question.
When moving between machines, keep your ticket secure and check its printed details. Ask staff about redemption locations and any time limit before leaving the property with an unused ticket. A ticket is part of your remaining budget, so include its value when deciding how much you have spent.
Our guide to how slots work explains the basic controls and random outcomes; the slot rules guide covers paytables, stakes and features. The RTP guide and volatility guide cover two different ideas: long-run return and the pattern of wins and losses. Neither identifies what a particular machine will do during your visit.
Live table games and questions to ask before buying in
The operator lists blackjack, Spanish 21, roulette, Three Card Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold’em. Treat that list as a guide to the advertised selection, then check which games are running on your chosen evening. It does not establish a current minimum wager, a seat reservation or a total number of open tables.
Blackjack and Spanish 21
These names should not be treated as interchangeable rule sets. Read the table’s own rules and payouts before playing. For blackjack, useful questions include the natural-blackjack payout, dealer procedure and available player actions. For Spanish 21, ask for the full game rules rather than applying a standard blackjack chart to a different game.
The right wager is one you understand and can afford across several hands, including any additional stake needed for permitted decisions. Optional wagers can have their own rules and payouts. You can ask a dealer to explain them without placing one, and it is reasonable to sit out until the next hand while you get oriented.
Roulette and casino poker variants
At roulette, establish the wheel layout, chip procedure and minimum before you exchange money. Check whether a minimum applies to an individual placement or to a combined set of bets. At a casino poker variant, distinguish the initial stake from later decisions and any optional side wager.
Three Card Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold’em are not a promise of a seat in a conventional player-versus-player poker game. The Sunday poker listing is a separate item in the operator’s information. If your group has a particular game in mind, use its full name when asking staff so that a general answer about “poker” does not cause confusion.
For background reading, see payout terminology and side bets. Those explain concepts; the posted rules at Eagle River determine the game actually offered there.
Sunday poker and private table inquiries
Eagle River’s gaming page advertises a Sunday poker night beginning at 5pm and invites inquiries about a private reserved table. It does not establish a continuously operating poker room. Confirm the format, registration arrangements and availability directly before travelling specifically for that session.
When calling, ask whether the upcoming game is a tournament or a cash game, what the entry or stakes are, when registration opens and what happens if the game fills. If it is a tournament, ask about fees and any re-entry or additional purchase options before setting a budget. For a cash game, ask about the permitted buy-in and waiting list.
A group inquiry should identify the date, number of players and preferred game. Ask whether the request is a private arrangement or simply an attempt to seat friends together in a public game. Keep the booking confirmation, arrival deadline and cancellation conditions with the person coordinating the outing.
Do not assume that the general table closing time guarantees a particular poker game will continue until then. A session can depend on its format and participants. If others are collecting you, agree on a departure time before play starts instead of relying on the final hand to provide a convenient finish.
Timber’s Restaurant & Lounge
Timber’s provides restaurant dining and a lounge with full-menu service, sports viewing and advertised live entertainment. The operator describes steaks, sandwiches, salads and appetizers. Its dedicated dining page is the place to check the current menu and any dated special before deciding what to order.
The listed daily dining period ends at 11pm. That is a separate schedule from late casino gaming. If you plan to eat near the end of service, ask about last orders and seating availability; a published closing time is not necessarily the last moment at which a full meal can be ordered.
Choosing a meal, lounge visit or group dinner
For a quiet meal, ask about the restaurant seating and the entertainment planned for that evening. For a game on television, check whether the lounge expects to show the event you want. A general sports-bar description does not confirm a particular broadcast, sound arrangement or reserved table.
For a larger party, settle the headcount and any dietary requirements early. Ask whether the group should use a normal dining reservation or the banquet team. Accessibility needs, separate bills and a fixed departure time are easier to discuss before everyone arrives.
Weekly or monthly specials should be checked against their dates. At the November 1 review, the dining page’s special-buffet heading still referred to October; that heading does not confirm a November buffet. Use the Timber’s page for the current listing, then confirm any detail that would determine whether you make the trip. Keep food spending separate from money set aside for gaming.
Travel plaza, truck parking and the RV park
The Husky/Esso travel plaza advertises fuel, snacks and coffee, with parking for up to 50 semi-trucks. The RV park is a separate overnight facility. A space to park while using the casino should not be treated as a booked campsite, permission to stay overnight or access to campground services.
RV facilities and booking questions
The operator advertises year-round RV operation, 30-amp and 50-amp power, water and sanitation hookups, Wi-Fi, showers, flush washrooms, coin laundry, a playground, a cultural arbor and Tesla charging outlets. Confirm the facilities available for your specific site and travel date, particularly when freezing weather affects your plans.
Give the booking team the length of your vehicle and any tow vehicle, your arrival date, number of nights and electrical needs. Ask about the complete charge, taxes, check-in arrangements, cancellation terms and whether late arrival needs advance approval. Keep the written site confirmation rather than relying on a casino visit to secure a space.
For winter trips, ask explicitly about water access, hookup procedures and the route to the assigned site. Year-round opening does not by itself describe every individual service in every condition. If charging is important, confirm the connector, access arrangements and any fee rather than treating a listed outlet as a guaranteed charging session.
Passing through with a truck or trailer
Check the entrance and parking instructions appropriate to your vehicle before turning in. An ordinary car route may not be the right approach for a long combination. Ask staff about permitted parking duration and where to leave enough clearance for other traffic.
The RV park and travel plaza page provides the operator’s booking links. Current campsite rates are not established in this guide. Get the price for your dates and site type directly before making an accommodation budget.
Hotel status and overnight planning
The hotel section on Eagle River’s official website still says “coming soon.” This guide therefore does not present an operating on-site hotel, a room count or a room-booking service. A hotel menu item on the website is not enough to establish that accommodation has opened.
If you require a room, arrange suitable Whitecourt-area accommodation separately and confirm it with the accommodation provider. Ask about your check-in deadline, parking and the journey between the room and casino. Do not assume an event ticket or casino reservation includes transport or a place to stay.
An RV site may suit a visitor who already has an appropriate vehicle, but it is not a substitute for a hotel room for someone arriving by car. Make overnight arrangements first if they are essential to the trip. Leaving that decision until a late gaming session ends can sharply reduce your options.
Whistling Eagle meetings, banquets and group events
The Whistling Eagle Conference Room is advertised beside the casino floor. The operator lists video conferencing, a podium and PA system, room furnishings, catering, bar service and serving staff. Event inquiries go to 780-706-7475, a different contact from the main casino line.
Start a group inquiry with the date, expected attendance, room layout, meal requirements and start and finish times. Ask the team to confirm seated capacity for your preferred arrangement. A room that accommodates one setup may have a different capacity with dining tables, a presentation area or space for an activity.
The published guidance says at least seven days for 20 people or fewer and at least fourteen days for 20+ people. Those categories overlap at exactly twenty guests, so ask the events team which deadline applies to a party of that size. Treat those periods as minimum notice guidance, not a promise that your preferred date remains available.
What a useful written proposal should settle
- The room, access time, setup period and agreed layout.
- The menu, dietary arrangements, service times and final headcount deadline.
- Equipment included, internet needs and responsibility for testing a presentation.
- The full charge, payment schedule and cancellation conditions.
- Whether any casino activity is optional and how it fits around the main function.
For a work meeting or celebration, give guests a clear arrival point and a schedule they can use without entering a game. A banquet booking, table inquiry and campground reservation are separate tasks. One coordinator can keep the confirmations together, but each service needs its own agreed details.
Talon Player’s Card and Winner’s Edge
Eagle River’s player page identifies both the Talon Player’s Card and Winner’s Edge, with Guest Services as the signup point. It describes reward uses connected with dining, slot play and fuel. Ask which programme applies to the benefit you are considering; similar-looking cards do not establish identical conditions.
Useful questions include how points are recorded, what identification is needed, whether a benefit needs a printed voucher, when it expires and which purchases are excluded. A fuel offer may distinguish fuel types, while a dining redemption may follow a different process. Read the current conditions for the actual benefit before using it.
Keep rewards in proportion to your original plan. Extra spending to reach a points threshold can cost more than the value of the benefit. A membership also does not replace a gaming ticket, a campsite booking or a restaurant reservation. Keep each record separately so that it is clear what has actually been arranged.
Directions, comfort and a manageable visit
Use the highway-junction address and the linked map when planning the drive. Check current road conditions and leave room for weather, fuel stops and the return journey. A fixed travel-time claim would be misleading without a starting point and the conditions on the day.
Casino gaming is 18+. Bring valid government-issued photo identification; AGLC requires age checks where someone appears under 25. A dining, group-event or RV arrangement does not grant younger guests gaming-floor access. Ask about permitted routes for the specific activity. The gaming page also advertises a designated smoking section. If smoke exposure affects your comfort, ask about the location of the non-smoking areas and the route between the entrance, dining and chosen gaming area. Do not assume the entire facility is smoke-free.
For accessibility requirements, describe the help you need rather than asking only whether the building is accessible. Questions about parking, entrance routes, washrooms, seating and the path to a particular room are more useful. Confirm assistance for your visit directly with the property.
Decide on a spending limit and finish time before you arrive. Include meals, fuel, accommodation and transport in the trip budget, then separate any gaming money. Our budget calculator can help organise those amounts. If gambling is becoming difficult to control, the gambling support page gives a starting point for help.
For a wider itinerary, use the Alberta land-based casino directory. The Edmonton guide covers another regional grouping; it should not be read as a list of properties immediately beside Eagle River.
Eagle River Casino FAQs
Eagle River Casino & Travel Plaza is at the corner of Highway 43 and Highway 32 North near Whitecourt, AB T7S 1N3. The main casino number is 780-779-2727. Banquet and meeting inquiries use 780-706-7475. Give the intended service, date and vehicle type when relevant; a dining inquiry, private table request and RV reservation are separate arrangements. Slots are listed Sunday–Thursday noon–midnight and Friday–Saturday noon–2am the following morning. Live tables are listed Sunday–Thursday 4pm–midnight and Friday–Saturday 4pm–2am. Timber’s is listed daily noon–11pm, and the travel plaza daily 7am–11pm. These schedules were checked November 1, 2026. Confirm holidays, the actual game and late food service directly. The gaming page advertises 250 ticket-in, ticket-out slots, with credit denominations from one cent to one dollar. A credit value is not the full stake for a spin. The table selection lists blackjack, Spanish 21, roulette, Three Card Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold’em. That list does not establish current table minimums, a total staffed-table count or a guaranteed seat. No continuous poker-room schedule is established by the reviewed page. It advertises Sunday poker beginning at 5pm and invites private reserved-table inquiries. Call to confirm the upcoming format, registration, full cost and availability. Three Card Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold’em are separate house-banked games; their presence does not confirm a player-versus-player seat or tournament. The operator’s hotel and about pages still say coming soon, checked November 1, 2026. This guide therefore does not present an operating onsite hotel. The RV park is a separate facility advertised year-round, with a reservation link and listed hookups and amenities. Confirm the actual site, seasonal services and complete charge; an RV booking is not a hotel room. The dedicated page lists restaurant and lounge service daily noon–11pm and describes full-menu lounge dining, sports viewing and entertainment. Ask about seating, last orders, dietary needs and the specific programme. At the November 1 review its special-buffet heading still referred to October; that does not establish a November buffet. A later casino closing does not extend restaurant hours. The event page says at least seven days for 20 people or fewer and at least fourteen days for 20+ people. Exactly 20 falls into both descriptions, so confirm the applicable deadline with the events team on 780-706-7475. Whistling Eagle offers meeting equipment and catering, but the actual layout, capacity, price and date require agreement; minimum notice is not guaranteed availability. Casino gaming is 18+. Bring valid government-issued photo identification; AGLC requires age checks where someone appears under 25. An RV stay, meal or event does not grant younger guests gaming-floor access. The gaming page advertises a designated smoking section, so do not assume the entire facility is smoke-free. Ask about permitted routes and non-smoking areas if they affect the visit.Where is Eagle River Casino and which number should I call?
