Alberta Slots Guide

Century Downs

Editor: Updated

Century Downs Racetrack and Casino combines seasonal live horse racing, slot machines, VLTs, electronic roulette and dining in Rocky View County, north of Calgary. Its racing facilities and electronic gaming make it a different kind of destination from a casino built around a live dealer pit.

This guide uses primary operator information checked November 1, 2026. It distinguishes the casino schedule from race-day timing and restaurant service, identifies different published machine totals, and explains which details to settle before a meal, meeting or racing outing.

Location in Rocky View County

Century Downs is at 260 Century Downs Drive, Rocky View County, AB T4A 0V5. The operator and AGLC venue directory publish 587-349-7777 as the main contact. Use the full address for directions rather than assuming the Calgary-area description places the property downtown.

The official directions describe approaches using Highway 2, CrossIron Drive and routes through the surrounding road network. Check the current route from your actual starting point, especially if road conditions or a late return affect the plan. A general promotional journey time is not a reliable estimate for every visitor.

Agree on a meeting or pickup point before arriving. A large racetrack and casino property can have different destinations for dining, an event or race viewing. Give a driver the activity and entrance you intend to use as well as the property name.

For other regional destinations, the Calgary casino guide compares locations and facilities. If a booking names another Century property, check it carefully: Century Mile and Century Casino Edmonton are separate venues.

Casino hours and service-specific schedules

The operator homepage publishes casino opening from 9:30am daily, closing at 3am Sunday through Thursday and 4am Friday and Saturday. This is not a 24-hour casino schedule. It also does not establish that a restaurant, outdoor area or race programme operates for the same hours.

Derby bar Sun–Thu until 1am; Fri–Sat until 2am, from 9:30am. Bar and kitchen schedules differ.
The Oaks Lounge Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings advertised. Confirm specific opening and closing times.
Live racing Seasonal, dated race meetings. Check the calendar and current notices.

All times are local Alberta time. State the actual date when arranging a pickup after midnight. Someone joining for a meal should use the kitchen’s service window instead of the later casino closing time.

For holidays, private events or a trip built around one service, ask about the relevant department. The general opening panel is a starting point; a current race notice or restaurant confirmation settles the part of the visit that matters to you.

Slots, VLTs and the 600-plus versus 650-plus figures

The homepage advertises over 650 slot machines and VLTs. The dedicated machine page describes over 600 across slots, VLTs and electronic gaming tables, while the casino overview uses another broad selection description. These are different category groupings and do not reconcile into an exact slot-only count.

The summary panel retains the homepage’s combined 650+ wording and identifies the other version. It does not invent a separate VLT number, add overlapping descriptions together or suggest that every advertised position is available at every moment.

The dedicated machine page locates VLT play in the off-track betting lounge and describes both familiar and newer electronic games. If a particular title or feature matters, ask about the exact game before travelling. A cabinet photograph cannot establish the current floor selection.

Read the full stake shown on the machine. Credit value, line choices and optional features can affect the total cost of a round. Our slot mechanics guide explains common controls, while floor staff can answer questions about the actual machine and its cash-out instructions.

Electronic roulette and the live-table distinction

Century Downs advertises fully automated electronic roulette. AGLC’s directory lists slot machines, electronic table games and VLTs, without listing a live-table category for this venue. This guide therefore does not promise a live dealer blackjack or roulette pit.

Electronic roulette uses a terminal and its displayed rules. Check the layout, permitted stakes and result information before starting. A familiar roulette name does not establish that the interface or paytable matches another game you have played.

If you need a particular table format, ask explicitly whether it is electronic or dealer-operated. Saying that a casino has roulette can otherwise conceal the distinction that matters to the visit. The operator’s page address includes table-games, but its actual heading and description specify electronic roulette.

Do not infer a player-versus-player poker room from the general casino name either. No current room or tournament timetable was established in the reviewed facilities. Compare the relevant venue’s own information if live cards are essential to your plans.

Live racing is seasonal, not an everyday promise

The racing section distinguishes Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse and Standardbred activity. At the November 1, 2026 check, it carried autumn Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse information and a message marking the end of the 2026 Standardbred season. Those notices show why the racing type and date matter.

The autumn Thoroughbred panel advertised Friday and Saturday post times, but those should not be converted into a permanent year-round timetable. Use the official racing page, dated calendar and current notices for the particular meeting you intend to attend.

For a first visit, distinguish the first race’s post time from the time you want to arrive. A meal, seating arrangement and time to understand the programme all need their own allowance. A restaurant reservation is separate from confirmation that the intended race meeting is going ahead.

Check for weather or schedule changes before making a journey centred on racing. The website’s racing-information links provide updates and programmes. A general casino opening time does not mean horses are running on the track that day.

Building a race-day plan

Start with the dated race meeting, then choose the viewing and dining arrangement. Ask where the party will sit and whether any particular admission, booking or age condition applies. Do not assume access to every part of the property from a general description of the racetrack.

If some guests want to watch without wagering, make that easy within the plan. Enjoying the races does not require a bet on every contest. Decide meal costs and transport separately so that a visitor’s participation is not tied to the rest of the group’s gambling.

Use the current programme for runners and race details. A previous meeting’s selections or results do not describe today’s field. A tip is also different from a guarantee, and a short-priced runner can still lose.

Agree on the return time before beginning. A sequence of races, dinner and a later casino session can otherwise make an outing much longer than intended. It is reasonable to leave after the planned activity even when other services remain open.

Off-track betting and simulcast calendars

Century Downs has a separate off-track betting description and links to a simulcast calendar. This provides a way to follow races held elsewhere. It should not be confused with a live meeting taking place on the property’s own track.

Check the track, race date and local viewing time on the current calendar. Meeting times and the available broadcasts can vary. If a particular race is the reason for travelling, ask the venue whether it is being shown and what service is available then.

Before submitting an unfamiliar wager, understand the selected runners, bet type and total ticket cost. Combining runners or races can change that cost substantially. Read the ticket before leaving the window and ask promptly if it does not reflect the instruction you intended.

Track all wagering within one allowance for the outing. Switching from a machine to the races does not start a fresh spending budget automatically. The budget calculator can illustrate stake and pace, but it does not forecast race results or enforce a limit.

The Derby Restaurant and race-day table requests

The Derby Restaurant is inside the casino and is identified by the operator as an 18+ establishment. Its dedicated page publishes daily kitchen service from 9:30am to 11:30pm. Bar service continues until 1am Sunday through Thursday and 2am Friday and Saturday.

For live-racing tables, the restaurant page asks visitors to submit reservation requests before 3pm on Thursday each week. A request deadline is not the same as an accepted reservation. Wait for confirmation of the date, party size and arrangement before telling the group its table is secured.

The current page links to main, breakfast, drink and dessert menus. Check the menu and any dietary requirements with the restaurant. A limited daily feature should not be treated as a permanent price or a guaranteed dish on another day.

Match the meal to the race programme if viewing matters. Ask about the actual table and sightline rather than assuming every seat has the same view. Allow time for food service without treating the first race as the restaurant’s last-order time.

Breakfast has its own service window

The Derby page lists its regular breakfast menu from 9:30am to 11am, with Sunday breakfast continuing to 1pm. It also advertises Monday all-day breakfast from 9:30am to 9pm. Those are menu-specific periods within a longer kitchen schedule.

A kitchen open into the evening does not necessarily serve the breakfast menu throughout that time. Use the day and meal name when confirming the plan, especially if a breakfast promotion is the main reason for meeting friends.

For a mixed-age party, remember the restaurant’s advertised 18+ setting and ask about the appropriate alternative arrangements. Do not assume a racetrack setting gives younger guests entry to the casino restaurant or gaming floor.

Choose the meal on its own terms. A breakfast visit need not include a gambling session afterwards, and waiting for another person should not require placing bets. Set a meeting time that works for those attending just for food.

Celly’s Sports Bar & Lounge

The operator describes Celly’s as a sports-viewing outlet on the casino floor and identifies it as 18+. Its page promotes menus and game-day events. A complete standalone daily opening-and-closing schedule was not established in the reviewed Celly’s information.

Do not borrow the Edmonton Celly’s timetable simply because the outlet names match. Century properties publish their own service arrangements. Call Century Downs about the desired broadcast, meal time and kitchen availability.

For a group watching sport, ask how seating works and whether the intended fixture will be shown. A sports-bar label does not guarantee every broadcast or a reserved view of a screen. Date-specific competitions and promotions also have their own conditions.

Keep drinks and the journey home within the planning discussion. Someone leaving after a game or meal should not depend on another visitor’s gambling results or willingness to stop. A clear return arrangement helps everyone choose how long to stay.

The Oaks Lounge and evening entertainment

The Oaks Lounge page advertises Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening opening. It also describes a food-and-drink menu and Saturday trivia. The page does not provide one complete clock-time schedule for all lounge service.

Check the current dated entertainment notice and confirm seating before travelling for a specific event. A recurring trivia description is a useful lead, but a private booking, holiday or programme change can affect an individual evening.

Ask whether a table reservation, event entry and food order are separate arrangements. A general inquiry does not necessarily hold a place for the party. When booking for friends, share the outlet name rather than only saying meet at the casino.

The lounge is a separate option within the property, not a reason to increase gambling stakes while waiting. A meal or evening event can be the whole outing. Agree on the finishing time and a practical pickup point before arriving.

Homestretch Room: up to 140 guests advertised

The operator describes the Homestretch Room as an event space overlooking the track, with capacity for up to 140 guests. It advertises buffet or table-service arrangements, presentation equipment, dedicated bathrooms and a separate racetrack entrance.

Capacity depends on the setup required. Start with the event type, expected attendance and seating style, then ask how the room fits the programme. A headline maximum is not a confirmed capacity for every stage, screen or dining layout.

Ask the events team about catering, access, technical support and the timing of setup and breakdown. If race viewing is part of the event, confirm the race meeting and the room’s specific arrangement for it. A track-facing room does not itself establish that racing is scheduled on your date.

Wait for the written booking details before issuing final invitations. A room inquiry, a restaurant table request and a group race-day arrangement can follow different processes even when they are at the same property.

Boardroom and Paddock Room

The dedicated Boardroom page advertises space for up to 14, with audiovisual and catering options. The Paddock Room page describes a smaller-event setting for up to 30, with a conference phone and large screen offering computer connections.

Choose by the actual meeting format rather than the larger number alone. A discussion around one table, a presentation and a meal can require different layouts. Ask which configuration accommodates the party comfortably.

Describe the equipment and connections needed before the day. Bring the event team’s confirmation rather than assuming every laptop or presentation file will work with an unspecified system. Ask about accessibility, arrival instructions and a contact for assistance.

Confirm charges, cancellation conditions and room access in writing. Keep the agreed layout, timing and contact available to attendees. The operator’s descriptions identify types of space, while its team confirms the arrangement for an actual event.

Barn tours and dated experiences

The barn-tour page reviewed for this guide advertised a specific September 26, 2026 backstretch event. That date had already passed by the November 1 check. It should not be presented as an automatically available tour every weekend.

For a future behind-the-scenes experience, look for a newly dated operator notice and ask how registration works. Check the meeting place, age conditions, footwear or other instructions attached to that actual event.

A restaurant booking or general casino visit does not provide independent access to stables or working areas. Use the organised route and staff instructions if a tour is offered. Do not plan a group visit around an old registration page.

The same principle applies to seasonal food trailers and outdoor events. A navigation link identifies an advertised activity, but its current date and availability determine whether it belongs in your itinerary.

Arrival, accessibility and an overnight plan

Casino gaming is for adults aged 18 and over. Bring valid government-issued photo identification; AGLC requires checks where someone appears under 25. The operator specifically identifies The Derby and Celly’s as 18+ outlets, so confirm permitted non-gaming areas and routes before arranging a mixed-age visit.

For accessibility, ask about the actual route between the intended entrance, restaurant, viewing area and event room. A request about seating or mobility is more useful when it names the activity and the practical assistance needed.

Confirm parking and vehicle arrangements with the property if you need a particular space, arrive in a larger vehicle or intend to leave a vehicle overnight. The information reviewed does not establish a universal arrangement for every kind of visit.

No onsite hotel booking facility was established in the reviewed Century Downs visitor pages. If an overnight stay is needed, choose accommodation separately and check the route and return arrangements. Do not assume the hotel at Century Edmonton is part of this property.

Keep accommodation and transport costs outside the gambling allowance. A safe return should not depend on a winning session. Share the departure plan before arriving so that members of the group can leave at different times if necessary.

RTP, progressives and tracking the whole session

Century Downs describes progressive games among its electronic selection. Read the qualification and prize conditions on the actual game. A progressive display does not establish a universal maximum jackpot or mean every stake qualifies for every prize.

RTP is a long-run mathematical measure for a particular game configuration. Volatility concerns variation in outcomes. Neither is a promise about the money returned during one afternoon at the venue.

A large machine count, a recent winner or a horse-racing result does not establish the chances on another game. This guide does not publish an invented venue-wide win rate, jackpot ceiling or personal testing claim.

Track spending across the whole visit, including any move between slots, VLTs, roulette and racing. Choose a stopping time as well as a money limit. A change of activity does not remove the amounts already spent.

Rewards, gift cards and getting assistance

The property links to Winner’s Edge for player rewards. Check the programme and the venue’s current conditions before relying on a benefit. Do not increase stakes just to reach a points target or assume every outlet applies an offer in the same way.

The homepage describes Century Downs gift cards for food, beverages and merchandise and explicitly says they cannot be exchanged for gambling. Keep that distinction clear when buying a present or planning a group meal.

For tickets or other cashier questions, follow the issuing venue’s redemption instructions and ask staff if uncertain. Physical venue payment is different from an online casino withdrawal. Keep the relevant ticket until any question is resolved.

If gambling becomes difficult to control, stop and ask about assistance. Our Alberta gambling-help page provides support and self-exclusion information. Rewards, a later closing time or another race should not override the stopping point chosen beforehand.

Compare other Alberta venues

Use the Alberta casino directory to compare other physical destinations and their visitor guides. Check each venue’s address, gaming formats and service schedules before deciding where to meet. A restaurant, hotel or event booking at another Century property does not automatically apply here.

Century Downs FAQs

Where is Century Downs and how do I contact it?

Century Downs Racetrack and Casino is at 260 Century Downs Drive, Rocky View County, AB T4A 0V5. Its main number is 587-349-7777. It serves the Calgary area but is a separate destination from Century Mile and Century Casino Edmonton. Use the full property name and address when arranging transport, dining or an event.

What are the casino’s published opening hours?

The homepage lists Sunday–Thursday 9:30am–3am and Friday–Saturday 9:30am–4am the following morning. This is not a 24-hour casino schedule. Restaurants, lounges and race meetings have separate arrangements. Confirm a holiday or time-sensitive visit directly and use the actual calendar date for a pickup after midnight. Sources were checked November 1, 2026.

Does the 650+ figure mean 650 slot machines?

No exact slot-only total is established by the reviewed pages. The homepage advertises over 650 slots and VLTs together. The dedicated machine page describes over 600 across slots, VLTs and electronic gaming tables. These overlapping descriptions should not be added together, and neither establishes a separate VLT count or current available seats.

Does Century Downs have live dealer blackjack or roulette?

The operator advertises fully automated electronic roulette. AGLC lists slots, electronic table games and VLTs without a live-table category for this property. The guide therefore does not promise a dealer-operated blackjack or roulette pit. Ask for the exact game and format if that determines whether you make the trip.

Are live races and barn tours available every day?

No daily year-round programme is established. Check a dated race meeting and current notices rather than applying an autumn Friday/Saturday headline indefinitely. The reviewed barn-tour page advertises September 26, 2026, which has passed. A new tour needs its own dated notice and registration arrangements; general casino admission does not provide access to working stables.

When does The Derby Restaurant serve food and breakfast?

The Derby page lists kitchen service daily 9:30am–11:30pm, with bar service until 1am Sunday–Thursday and 2am Friday–Saturday. Regular breakfast is listed 9:30am–11am, Sunday breakfast until 1pm and Monday all-day breakfast until 9pm. Check the intended menu and date. Live-racing table requests are due before 3pm Thursday and still require confirmation.

What event-room sizes does the operator advertise?

The Homestretch Room is advertised for up to 140 guests, the Boardroom for up to 14 and the Paddock Room for up to 30. These are separate room descriptions, not a combined capacity or guaranteed layout. Confirm the actual seating, equipment, catering, accessible route, charges and booking conditions for the event you intend.

What age and identification rules should I plan for?

Casino gaming is 18+, and the operator specifically identifies The Derby Restaurant and Celly’s as 18+ outlets. Bring valid government-issued photo identification; AGLC requires age checks where someone appears under 25. Ask about permitted non-gaming areas and routes for a mixed-age group instead of assuming the racetrack setting grants casino access.
