On this page
The Track on 2 combines a small casino, seasonal Standardbred horse racing and the Funky Monkey Kitchen + Bar beside Highway 2 near Lacombe. The operator lists 80 slot machines and 8 VLTs, with a simulcast lounge for watching races from other tracks. You can visit the casino and restaurant outside the local racing season.
This guide covers the published opening hours, machine counts, dining arrangements, race-day access, event spaces and practical questions to settle before travelling. Information was checked on November 1, 2026. At that check, the racing page thanked visitors for the 2026 season and said the 2027 calendar was coming soon. An old race poster should therefore not be treated as an upcoming fixture.

Opening hours and the best time to arrive
The casino page and the website footer publish the same weekly hours. Friday and Saturday start earlier and finish later than Monday to Thursday. Sunday also has an earlier opening, but closes at 11 pm. These are local Alberta times; a closing time of 1 am falls on the following calendar day.
| Day or service | Published hours |
|---|---|
| Monday–Thursday | 11 am–11 pm |
| Friday–Saturday | 9:30 am–1 am |
| Sunday | 9:30 am–11 pm |
| Kitchen | Closes at 9 pm |
| Live racing | Scheduled seasonal dates; separate from casino hours |
For an evening meal, work back from the kitchen closing time rather than the casino closing time. A 10 pm arrival can leave gaming time while being too late for dinner. If you are combining a reservation with a performance, ask when the kitchen takes its last orders and whether the event uses a different menu.
A race-day post time is another separate deadline. It tells you when the first scheduled race starts, not when you should arrive to park, find your seat and eat. Allow time for those steps. For holidays, special functions or a long drive, phone before leaving to confirm that the usual hours apply to the part of the property you want to use.
Slots, VLTs and what the casino offers
The operator’s casino page separates its inventory into 80 slots and 8 VLTs. Its About page describes 88 machines overall, so the figures agree when combined. This is a compact gaming stop rather than a sprawling resort floor. AGLC also identifies the venue with slots and VLTs in its Alberta casino and racing entertainment centre directory.
The reviewed listings do not advertise a live-table pit or a regular poker room. Plan around the facilities actually listed. If blackjack, roulette or a particular electronic game is the reason for your trip, ask the venue directly before travelling. The word “casino” on a sign does not establish that every type of casino game is available.
Checking the game before you play
Machine numbers do not tell you which titles, stakes or features will be available when you arrive. Look at the selected denomination and total wager on the screen. A small coin value can still produce a larger overall stake when several lines or credits are active. Read the help screen before enabling a feature you have not used before.
Our guide to how slots work explains symbols, reels and game information. The RTP guide covers long-run return figures, while the volatility guide explains why the size and frequency of wins vary. None of those measures predicts the result of a visit.
Tickets, cash and staff assistance
Ask an attendant about the machine’s credit and redemption process before inserting money if you are unfamiliar with it. Keep any printed ticket secure and check its amount. If a screen freezes or a payment needs attention, leave the machine in place and ask staff to help. Do not assume another player’s description of a procedure is the venue’s current policy.
Casino cash-out arrangements also differ from an online account withdrawal. This page does not apply online processing times, banking limits or a welcome offer to a physical machine. Ask the cashier about identification and handling for your specific payment.
Live horse racing and the seasonal calendar
The Track on 2 hosts Standardbred racing, commonly known as harness racing. Its grounds include a grandstand, and the operator describes a one-mile dirt track alongside a seven-eighths-mile turf track. These property features should not be read as a promise that different racing codes run there every day.
Current season note: on November 1, 2026, the official racing page said the 2026 season had finished and the 2027 race calendar was coming soon. The casino can be open on a day with no live racing. Check the official horse-racing page for the next confirmed season, then check the date and post time of the individual meeting.
Attendance, parking and family visits
The racing page advertises free attendance and parking, with all ages welcome for the races. It also asks visitors not to bring outside food or drink and to leave pets at home. Those race-attendance arrangements do not turn the casino into an all-ages area, and they do not establish free admission to every separately ticketed show.
If bringing children, ask which entrances, viewing areas and dining spaces your group can use without entering restricted gaming areas. For a group with a stroller or mobility aid, check the route to the particular viewing space you intend to use. A race-day outing and an adult casino visit may need different plans within the same property.
Following the action
For a first visit, use the race programme to identify the scheduled race, horses and drivers, and listen for announcements about changes. Leave room in your plans for the intervals between races. A meal, a walk to the viewing area and watching the horses can fill those intervals without needing to place a wager.
The official site links live streams and race replays. Replays can help you understand the format before attending, but recorded footage is not evidence of a current fixture. Check the year on downloaded calendars too: older racing PDFs can remain available after their season ends.
The simulcast lounge
Simulcast viewing brings races from other tracks to the venue. The operator describes coverage of Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse and Standardbred racing, with the casino and simulcast lounge open seven days a week. This gives the property a racing connection even when horses are not competing on its own track.
Opening hours do not guarantee that your chosen overseas or Canadian meeting will be shown at the time you arrive. Check the monthly simulcast schedule linked on the racing page, and ask about the particular track and race. At our review, the page carried separate October and November 2026 calendars, making the month as important as the venue name.
If you choose to wager, ask a teller to explain the available bet type, minimum stake and ticket details before paying. Confirm the track, race number, selection and total cost, then check the printed ticket immediately. Combining selections can change the cost considerably. Watching the broadcast is also an option; placing a bet is not a requirement for enjoying a race.
The venue offers introductory racing information and invites enquiries about its learning events. Availability should be confirmed directly. Set a spending limit before joining in, and avoid treating race knowledge or a successful previous selection as a guarantee about the next result.
Funky Monkey Kitchen + Bar
The Funky Monkey Kitchen + Bar is the property’s year-round dining venue, with views towards the track and surrounding countryside. That makes a restaurant visit possible without a live race meeting. It is also useful for a group whose interests differ: dining and watching the setting can be the main outing rather than a break from gaming.
The dining page advertises breakfast until 1 pm daily and throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. Read that alongside the opening hours: Monday to Thursday the venue opens at 11 am, so “breakfast” does not mean an early-morning weekday service. The kitchen’s published closing time is 9 pm, even on evenings when the building remains open later.
Reservations and event-day meals
The operator encourages reservations and says special events need a phone conversation rather than an online order or reservation. Call 403-786-3122 with the date, party size, desired meal time and event you are attending. For a large party, ask whether everyone can order separately or whether a group menu is required.
At our check, the page announced a new menu was coming and retained a race-day menu image dated 2025. We have therefore not presented that older image as the current full menu or copied its prices. Ask for the current choices, especially if a specific dish, children’s option or dietary arrangement is important to your visit.
Explain allergies when booking and again when ordering. Staff can clarify what can be prepared and whether a restricted event menu changes the available choices. Keep meal costs separate from any gaming allowance; having money reserved for dinner prevents an intended meal from depending on a win.
Shows, celebrations and private events
The Track on 2 also hosts entertainment and private functions. Its website points visitors to an event calendar and an official ticketing organiser. Review the individual listing for admission, age restrictions, seating arrangements, start time and cancellation terms. A general description of past entertainment is not a current programme.
Grandstand event space
The venue-rental page describes second-floor space for groups of up to 238. Its separate wedding section gives different capacities: up to 150 indoors and 300 outdoors. These are different arrangements, so use the figure relevant to your layout rather than taking the largest number as a universal seated capacity.
The operator describes a sound system and a screen that can connect to a laptop, plus catering options. Ask which equipment and staff support are included in a quote. Share the expected guest count, whether you need a dance floor, presentation area or ceremony seating, and how long you need the room before guests arrive.
Race-view suites and outdoor space
Six luxury suites are advertised for races and selected events. The racing page describes space for 12–14 guests per suite, with optional food and drink packages. These are event-viewing suites above the finish line; this guide does not describe them as overnight hotel rooms.
The property also advertises more than 140 acres of greenspace and a paddock barn for event use. An enquiry should identify the exact space, weather backup and facilities your group needs. Ask about toilets, power, furniture, access for suppliers and how an outdoor event changes if conditions are unsuitable.
Booking dates and current quotations
The operator warns that June–September weekend bookings depend on release of the following racing calendar. For a summer wedding or corporate function, establish whether your date is confirmed before arranging other suppliers. The website also links some older pricing documents; obtain a current written quote covering rental, catering, bar service, taxes, deposits and cancellation terms.
A venue capacity is only one part of a workable booking. Check arrival and departure times, room access for decorating, the permitted end time and responsibility for cleanup. If guests will need transport afterwards, include that in the plan before accepting the booking.
Address, parking and accessible access
The Track on 2 is at 40309 Range Road 272, Lacombe County, near the Highway 2 and Highway 12 area. The operator describes its entrance as east of Highway 2 and south of Highway 12. Use the full street address in your navigation rather than heading only for Lacombe town centre.
The official venue-rental page identifies accessible parking near the main entrance and a lift to the second floor. If you need step-free access to a suite, a specific viewing area or an event setup, ask staff to confirm the complete route. Tell them about any equipment dimensions or assistance requirements that affect your arrival.
For racing, the operator explicitly advertises free parking. For a private function or a separately organised event, check the organiser’s parking instructions, arrival point and any reserved spaces. Do not assume that general parking information authorises overnight camping, an RV hookup or leaving a vehicle indefinitely.
Plan the return journey before drinking. If relying on a taxi or a lift from someone else, arrange the pickup location and time rather than assuming immediate availability at closing. In poor weather, allow extra travel time and confirm any event changes before setting off.
Planning a visit from Central Alberta
For a straightforward restaurant-and-casino visit, choose a meal time before the kitchen closes, make a reservation if needed and set a finishing time for gaming. On a Friday or Saturday, the later casino closing leaves more flexibility, but it does not extend dinner service to 1 am.
For a future race-day visit, wait for a confirmed meeting date, check the post time and decide whether your group wants general viewing or a reserved suite. Ask about dining at the same time as seating. A booking for one service should not be assumed to reserve another.
If you need overnight accommodation, book a separate hotel and establish the journey between the hotel and the track. The property’s event suites should not be mistaken for guestrooms. A hotel link on a venue’s website does not, by itself, include a room, transfer or event ticket.
Our Red Deer casino guide covers other gaming stops in the wider Central Alberta area. The individual Red Deer Resort & Casino guide and Cash Casino Red Deer guide explain those venues separately. Use their own hours and facilities when comparing options; information about one property does not carry over to another.
Contact details and useful questions
The main phone number is 403-786-3122 and the published email is thetrackon2@gmail.com. Use the phone for a same-day arrival question. For a function, an email gives you space to provide the proposed date, guest count, room arrangement and catering requirements.
Before travelling for something specific, confirm the relevant detail: today’s kitchen service, the particular race broadcast, a ticketed event’s entry rules or access to an upstairs space. For a wedding or business gathering, ask for the agreed arrangements in writing. This guide provides public planning information and does not make reservations or represent the venue.
Setting a budget and getting support
Casino gaming is 18+. Bring valid government-issued photo identification; AGLC requires age checks where someone appears under 25. The operator’s all-ages race-attendance policy applies to that activity, not unrestricted access to gaming areas. Ask about the route and facilities suitable for the people attending.
Keep transport, food and event admission separate from money you are prepared to spend gambling. Decide on a time limit and spending limit before starting, and stop when either is reached. Slots, VLTs and racing wagers can all lose money; switching activities does not reset the amount already spent.
The session budget calculator can help organise an allowance, but it cannot predict a session’s results. Our responsible gambling page provides Alberta support information. Venue staff can also direct you to available gambling-support and exclusion information if you need assistance during a visit.
Browse the Alberta land-based casino directory for more venue guides.
The Track on 2 FAQs
The casino page lists 80 slot machines and 8 VLTs; 80 plus 8 equals the 88 machines described on the About page. The figures cover two categories and are advertised inventory, not live vacancies. The checked sources do not advertise a live-table pit or regular poker room. Call 403-786-3122 if a particular game is the reason for travelling. Checked November 1, 2026, the operator lists Monday–Thursday 11am–11pm, Friday–Saturday 9:30am–1am and Sunday 9:30am–11pm. The 1am finish falls on the following calendar date. Kitchen closing is 9pm. Live racing and individual ticketed events have separate dates and starts, so check the actual activity rather than applying general building hours to every service. At the November 1, 2026 check, the official racing page thanked visitors for the finished 2026 season and said the 2027 calendar was coming soon. Older 2026 race-calendar links remained available. Wait for a confirmed meeting date and post time before planning a future race visit. The casino and simulcast lounge can operate when there is no local live racing. No. Simulcasting shows races from other tracks. The operator describes Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred and Standardbred coverage and links monthly viewing schedules, including October and November 2026 at this check. Confirm the particular track and meeting if it determines the visit. A broadcast, recording or seven-day lounge opening is not confirmation of a live local fixture. The dining page advertises breakfast until 1pm daily and all day Saturday and Sunday, alongside the venue’s opening timetable. Monday–Thursday opening is 11am, so this does not establish early weekday breakfast. The kitchen closes at 9pm. Phone 403-786-3122 about special-event reservations and the current menu; the page retains a 2025 race-day image while announcing a new menu. The operator welcomes all ages to race attendance, but casino gaming is 18+. Bring valid government-issued photo identification; AGLC requires checks where someone appears under 25. Ask about suitable non-gaming entrances, viewing and dining routes for the group. Concerts and other separately ticketed entertainment can have their own admission rules; race attendance does not override them. The advertised luxury suites are event and race-viewing spaces above the finish line. The racing page describes room for 12–14 guests per suite, with optional food and beverage packages. Six suites are described on the rental page. These descriptions do not establish overnight guestrooms or a held booking. Arrange separate accommodation and transport if the visit requires an overnight stay. The rental page describes second-floor groups of up to 238, while its wedding section gives up to 150 indoors and 300 outdoors. Those figures refer to different arrangements. Ask for the capacity and equipment of the actual layout, with catering, weather backup and a current quote. June–September weekend bookings depend on release of the racing schedule; an inquiry does not confirm the date. The address is 40309 Range Road 272, Lacombe County, AB T0C 0J0, east of Highway 2 and south of Highway 12. The rental page identifies accessible parking near the main entrance and a lift to the second floor; confirm the complete route to the space needed. Free race parking does not establish camping, RV hookups or unlimited overnight parking permission. How many machines does The Track on 2 advertise?
