On this page
Great Northern Casino is a Grande Prairie venue with slots, a separate VLT room, live table games, poker, dining and entertainment. Its 107 Avenue location offers a different visit from the racing-oriented casino at Evergreen Park, with its own games, opening schedules and nearby accommodation contacts.
The operator advertises more than 400 slots and 40 VLTs, rather than one combined machine figure. Poker has a detailed weekly programme, while the table-game pit and lounge keep separate hours. Plan around your preferred game, meal or show and use the relevant department extension for current details.

Location and department contacts
Use the full street address when arranging a lift or looking up directions. Grande Prairie’s Great Northern Casino and Evergreen Park’s Wild Horse Casino are separate destinations. A general search for a casino in the area can return either, so check that the map result matches the property you intend to visit.
The contact page lists several useful extensions on the main number. Guest Services is extension 0, reservations 100, table games 200, poker 121 and the slot cage 120. Asking for the relevant department is more useful than a broad inquiry about whether the casino is open.
For a poker trip, establish the current game and waiting-list arrangement with the room. For a meal or celebration, begin with reservations. For a cash-out or slot-service question, the cage or a floor attendant can explain the appropriate procedure without relying on a restaurant or hotel contact.
Give staff the intended visit date and the particular service you need. A Friday evening can have a different gaming and entertainment plan from a Monday afternoon. Keep the confirmation available if your inquiry becomes a booking, and share the correct arrival point with anyone joining you.
Slots, live tables and lounge hours
| Service | Published period | Planning detail |
|---|---|---|
| Slots | Sunday–Thursday 9:30am–3am; Friday–Saturday 9:30am–4am | Closing is on the following calendar day. |
| Live tables | Sunday noon–2am; Monday–Tuesday 2pm–2am; Wednesday–Saturday noon–3am | Confirm the particular game and available limits. |
| Lounge | Daily 9:30am–2am | Kitchen service and specific menus need separate confirmation. |
| Poker | Weekly programme below | Start times are distinct from a guaranteed seat or fixed session length. |
The slot schedule runs later on Friday and Saturday nights than during the rest of the week. Live tables start later than slots, with different opening and closing periods across the week. A morning visit for machines should not be planned on the assumption that the pit is already running.
The lounge has its own published hours. Those do not establish the exact period for every breakfast, dinner feature or kitchen item. Check the relevant meal service if dining is an important part of the outing, particularly near the end of the evening.
Read overnight closing times clearly
Friday’s advertised slot period ends at 4am Saturday; Friday’s live-table period ends at 3am Saturday. That matters when booking a ride, setting a hotel arrival time or arranging to meet friends. Use an actual date and time instead of saying only “after Friday night.”
For a particular table or poker game, confirm its operation directly. The pit’s general schedule describes the gaming period, not a promise that every advertised game will have an open seat throughout it. A session can also depend on its own registration and player numbers.
Build a short break or meal into a longer visit. Decide on the departure time before gaming starts, leaving room for the return journey. Late opening is an option the venue offers; it does not need to determine how long your own outing lasts.
Slots and the separate VLT room
The operator describes its slot selection and VLT room separately. This guide keeps those categories distinct and does not use either figure as a live availability count. A busy session can still limit access to a particular game or preferred seat.
Check the total cash wager on the selected machine before pressing a spin button. The denomination gives a credit value, but the full stake can involve several credits or another setting. Recheck the amount after changing a feature, game or bet option.
The paytable and help screen explain the game in front of you. Find out how wins are counted, what any feature costs and whether a displayed progressive prize requires a particular wager. An attendant can explain the controls, but no one can provide a reliable timetable for the next winning result.
Keep tickets and remaining credits within the same spending record as cash. Moving to another machine, or from a slot to a VLT, does not restart the entertainment budget. Before leaving with an unused ticket, ask how and when it can be redeemed.
The website mentions both provincial and in-house progressive games. We do not copy a jackpot meter as a current prize value or suggest that every machine is eligible for the same award. Read the current game-specific conditions at the venue.
For background, see how slots work and the slot rules guide, RTP and volatility. The progressive jackpot guide explains linked pools without promising any particular result for a visit.
Table-game selection
The Play page lists blackjack, Free Bet Blackjack, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, Three Card Poker, roulette and Chase the Flush, alongside three poker tables. A game appearing in that list is an advertised option; ask which tables are running on the date and at the time you intend to arrive.
Blackjack and variations
Read the specific table rules rather than assuming a variant follows ordinary blackjack in every respect. Useful details include the natural-blackjack payout, dealer procedure, doubling and splitting conditions, and how an optional wager is resolved. A strategy chart needs to match the actual rule set.
Ask about the complete amount you might commit to a round, not only the smallest opening stake. Some player decisions can require extra money. A game is easier to budget for when you understand that sequence before buying in.
Casino poker games and roulette
Ultimate Texas Hold’em, Three Card Poker and Chase the Flush should not be confused with taking a seat in the separate poker room. Use the full game name when asking staff about availability. Otherwise, an answer about “poker” may refer to a different activity from the one you want.
For roulette, check the layout and how the minimum applies to your intended placements. For any progressive or side wager, read the qualifying conditions and payout information separately. A large displayed prize does not explain the cost or chance of a particular outcome.
Our blackjack payout explanation and side-bet guide provide background. They do not replace the posted house rules or establish a current minimum at Great Northern.
Poker programme and the Thursday amendment
The operator’s weekly poker listing includes no-limit Texas Hold’em, pot-limit Omaha, Dealer’s Choice and tournaments. Its schedule is headed April 7, 2026, with a later notice changing Thursday’s game effective July 9. The later amendment is more relevant than simply repeating the earlier Half/Half entry.
| Day | Operator’s published programme |
|---|---|
| Sunday | Noon NLH tournament; 1–3 NLH from 3pm or Houseman’s discretion. |
| Monday | Dealer’s Choice from 4pm. |
| Tuesday | 1–3 NLH from 4pm. |
| Wednesday | NLH tournament from 6pm. |
| Thursday | Dealer’s Choice following the July amendment; confirm the session time. |
| Friday–Saturday | 2–5 NLH and 5–5 PLO listed from 4pm. |
The last Sunday of a month has a separate alternating tournament arrangement in the operator’s listing. Call about the exact date, buy-in and current format rather than treating the ordinary Sunday entry as universal. This guide does not assign a particular alternation to an unconfirmed month.
Waiting list and session questions
The site permits advance cash-game signup one day before the scheduled game during poker-room hours. Contact the Houseman on extension 121 to establish the current list, buy-in, seating and arrival procedure. Ask how long a place is held and whether each person in a group needs a separate entry.
The linked September 2026 poker house rules add specific waiting-list conditions. An advance signup requires presence at game opening to preserve the seat or list position; someone absent must call to join the new list. Call-ins have a two-hour check-in window with the Houseman. These are distinct procedures, so confirm which applies to your entry.
Once a checked-in player reaches the top and a seat opens, the rules allow two intercom pages; failing to respond within a reasonable time forfeits that position. Ask how to hear a call if you are dining or need communication support. The rules also require the Houseman’s permission before taking a seat. Do not infer that a telephone entry lets you sit wherever a chair is empty.
For a tournament, check registration, fees, re-entry options and the expected format before committing to the trip. For a cash game, ask about the actual stakes, buy-in and house charges. A published start time is not a guarantee of an immediate seat or a promise that the session will continue for a fixed length.
Reading the poker listing before arriving
A weekly schedule is a useful outline, but shorthand such as NLH, PLO or Dealer’s Choice does not describe every rule or charge. The operator expands NLH as no-limit Texas Hold’em and PLO as pot-limit Omaha. Its Dealer’s Choice list includes NLH, Pineapple, Crazy Pineapple and PLO. Ask the room to explain the game actually being spread, the required buy-in and the betting structure. Do not infer a full set of conditions from a number beside a game name.
For Dealer’s Choice, ask which games are included and how a change is selected. A player comfortable with one format can still need an explanation of another. It is reasonable to watch, ask questions or choose a different session before committing money.
Keep the amount available for the session separate from meal and transport costs. If the wait or game format no longer fits the plan, change the outing rather than automatically extending the budget or finish time.
Platinum Lounge, Dining Room and Joker’s Café
Great Northern names the Platinum Lounge and Dining Room and Joker’s Café as its dining choices. Its menu covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with steaks, burgers, casual meals and food for sharing. Choose the dining arrangement that fits your time and group rather than assuming all menus run throughout the lounge’s opening period.
The dining page publishes a daily chef feature and weekday dinner specials, including lasagna, ribs, wings and steak. The operator notes that features are dine-in and subject to change. Check the current menu, service period and availability instead of treating an old advertised price as a permanent commitment.
Meals before poker or a show
If the outing has a fixed poker registration or performance time, work backwards to choose a meal interval. Let the reservations team know when you need to leave the table. Give the group enough time to order and pay without turning the start of the next activity into a rush.
For a larger party, ask about seating together, separate bills and whether a set menu or advance order is helpful. Raise dietary requirements early and ask about the actual dish rather than assuming a menu description settles every ingredient or preparation detail.
For a late visit, distinguish bar closing from the last opportunity to order food. A lounge can remain open after some kitchen service has ended. The published dining information should be checked against your date and intended arrival if a meal is essential to the plan.
Use the official dining page for the current menu and extension 100 for reservation inquiries. Keep food spending outside the amount allocated to gaming.
Choosing a meal that fits the outing
The published menu includes burgers, salads, shareable platters, pasta and bowls as well as steak and other main courses. That range allows a quick meal and a longer dinner to be planned differently. Ask which menu is serving when you expect to arrive instead of assuming every item is available from breakfast until closing.
For a group, establish whether guests are ordering individually or sharing food. A platter description does not determine how much every guest will want, and an advertised meal price may not include drinks, additions or other charges. Ask about the complete order before using a headline special as the whole evening’s food budget.
If a performance or poker registration follows, tell the server about the time limit at the beginning. Settle payment arrangements early and allow a buffer for reaching the next area. A realistic meal interval is more useful than expecting a kitchen to fit an unmentioned deadline.
Comedy nights and live entertainment
The entertainment page advertises Wednesday comedy with doors at 6pm and an 8pm show. It also publishes a dated calendar for live music and other performances. Confirm the next event’s ticket price, availability and admission arrangement rather than assuming a recurring headline guarantees a place.
The page’s list of performers who have appeared in the past is background, not an upcoming lineup. Use the date attached to the event you want. A calendar can contain a past month even when a separate upcoming-events box is empty, so check the year as well as the day.
For comedy, ask about seating, advance tickets and arrival instructions. For live music, confirm the start, any cover charge and whether a dinner reservation also reserves a suitable view of the stage. Those are different arrangements unless the venue explicitly combines them.
Groups with different interests can meet for the meal or performance and leave gaming optional. Agree on a common pickup point and finish time before splitting up. A show ticket does not require anyone to add a casino session before or after the entertainment.
The official entertainment page is the place to start for the calendar. We do not present a historic performer list as an event currently on sale.
Group reservations, celebrations and private poker
The venue page describes a thirty-thousand-square-foot entertainment property and invites reservations through extension 100. That overall area includes more than one use; it should not be read as an exact gaming-floor measurement or a seated capacity for a private function.
For a dinner, celebration or fundraiser, explain the date, attendance, arrival time and food requirements. Ask which area is proposed and whether entertainment will be running nearby. An event with a speech or presentation needs a different conversation from a casual meal with friends.
A useful confirmation names the space, service times, menu, equipment, full price and cancellation conditions. Ask about deposits, the final headcount deadline and any spending commitment before accepting a proposal. A submitted inquiry is not itself a confirmed booking.
The poker page separately invites private-room inquiries through the table-games team. Explain the intended game, participants and preferred format, then ask what can actually be arranged. A private poker request should not be mistaken for a restaurant reservation or a guaranteed group of seats in a public game.
For access needs, describe the route and seating you require for the actual activity. Ask about the entrance, washrooms and movement between dining and the event area. It is more useful to settle those details early than to rely on a general statement that a venue welcomes groups.
Nearby accommodation and overnight plans
The casino’s Stay page links to Service Plus Inns & Suites, described as next door, and Encore Suites. These are accommodation providers with their own reservations. Service Plus’s own Grande Prairie page confirms the casino is next door and gives the same 780-538-3900 phone. Its address is 10810 107 Avenue, distinct from the casino’s 10910 address. A casino visit or restaurant booking does not establish that a room is available or included.
The casino’s published hotel contacts are 780-538-3900 for Service Plus and 587-259-0425 for Encore. Confirm the date, room type, full charge, parking, check-in deadline and cancellation terms directly with the hotel.
If a stay-and-play arrangement is offered for your dates, ask for a written description of what it includes. Do not assume meals, entertainment, transport or gaming credits form part of a room price unless the provider specifies them. Keep the hotel confirmation separate from any casino or show booking.
Arrange the room before relying on an overnight plan for a late session. Also check the route between the property and accommodation, particularly in poor weather or if an accessible journey is needed. A nearby address does not answer every question about a practical late-night return.
Arrival, parking and keeping the outing manageable
Casino gaming is 18+. Bring valid government-issued photo identification; AGLC requires age checks where someone appears under 25. A dining reservation, hotel booking or show ticket does not override gaming entry conditions. Ask about a suitable entrance and route if your visit depends on a particular access arrangement.
Use the street-address map and ask the casino about current parking conditions that affect your vehicle or arrival time. Do not assume that an accommodation provider’s parking arrangement automatically applies to casino visitors, or that a restaurant reservation authorises an overnight stay for a vehicle.
Agree on a return plan before gaming. Keep enough money for transport and any booked accommodation outside the gaming allocation. Decide on both an amount and a finish time, including all table, machine and poker spending within the same overall limit.
The budget calculator helps organise a session plan. The gambling support page provides help information if play is becoming difficult to control.
For other destinations, the Alberta casino directory keeps venues separate. The Evergreen Park guide covers the other Grande Prairie-area entry. It has different facilities and should not be used as a source for Great Northern’s poker or table schedule.
Great Northern Casino FAQs
The casino is at 10910 107 Avenue, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 7R2. Call 780-539-4454: Guest Services is extension 0, reservations 100, table games 200, poker 121 and the slot cage 120. Give the intended date and service. Great Northern is a separate property from Evergreen Park’s Wild Horse Casino; use the correct street address for directions. Yes. The operator advertises more than 400 slots and a separate room with 40 VLTs. These are advertised categories, not live counts of empty seats. Three poker tables are listed separately on the Play page. None of these figures establishes a venue-wide payout rate, a current jackpot value or availability of a particular machine when you arrive. Slots are listed Sunday–Thursday 9:30am–3am and Friday–Saturday 9:30am–4am. Live tables are Sunday noon–2am, Monday–Tuesday 2pm–2am and Wednesday–Saturday noon–3am. The lounge is daily 9:30am–2am; kitchen hours may differ. These were checked November 1, 2026. Friday’s slot period ends at 4am Saturday, while Friday’s tables close at 3am Saturday. The published April 7, 2026 weekly schedule has a later notice changing Thursday from Half/Half to Dealer’s Choice effective July 9. Confirm the upcoming session time and actual game with the Houseman on extension 121. The rest of the listing includes NLH, PLO and tournaments; an advertised start is not a guaranteed seat or fixed session length. No. The September 2026 house rules require advance signups to be present at game opening to preserve their position; an absent player must call to join the new list. Call-ins have a separate two-hour check-in window. Once a seat opens, two intercom pages and a reasonable response period apply. Confirm the procedure with extension 121 and obtain the Houseman’s permission before sitting. The operator names Platinum Lounge and Dining Room and Joker’s Café, with breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. Call extension 100 for reservation inquiries. Specific features are dine-in and subject to change; lounge opening does not establish every menu’s service period. Give your arrival time, party size and dietary requirements, and mention any show or poker deadline when arranging the meal. The entertainment page advertises Wednesday comedy with doors at 6pm and a show at 8pm. Confirm the exact date, tickets and seating with the casino. Its historical performer list is not an upcoming lineup, and a calendar may show a past month. Use dated announcements and distinguish a dinner reservation from any ticket or stage-view seating arrangement. Do not assume so. The casino lists Service Plus Inns & Suites on 780-538-3900 and Encore Suites on 587-259-0425 as separate accommodation contacts. Service Plus’s own page confirms its next-door location. Obtain a room confirmation and check package terms directly. Ask the casino about vehicle and overnight-parking conditions; a hotel or dinner booking does not establish casino parking permission. Casino gaming is 18+. Bring valid government-issued photo ID; AGLC requires age checks where someone appears under 25. A show ticket or reservation does not override entry conditions. For access needs, contact the casino about the specific entrance, route, washrooms and seating for your activity.
